Attic Ventilation Branson MO: New Roof or Ridge Vent?

Not every roofing job means replacing the whole roof.

I want to tell you about a recent job here in Branson. The homeowner wasn't dealing with a leak or storm damage. The attic just wasn't breathing the way it should, and that was the problem we needed to fix.

If you're looking into attic ventilation Branson MO homeowners can count on, here's the short version.

Why Your Attic Needs to Breathe

Your attic takes a beating all year. In summer, it gets brutally hot up there. In winter, moisture from inside the house rises into the attic and has nowhere to go.

Proper attic ventilation lets that heat and moisture escape. When it can't, it builds up and wears on your roof, your insulation, and sometimes your energy bill.

Signs Your Attic May Need Better Ventilation

Here are a few things I tell homeowners across the Ozarks to watch for.

Upstairs rooms that run hot in summer no matter what the thermostat says.

Cooling bills that seem higher than they should be.

A musty smell or damp insulation in the attic.

Frost, moisture, or dark staining on the underside of the roof deck.

Shingles that are curling or aging faster than they should.

Any one of these can have other causes, so it's worth having someone take a real look.

How Roof Ventilation Works

Good attic ventilation has two sides. Cool air comes in low through the soffit vents under the eaves. Hot, moist air leaves at the top through the ridge.

A ridge vent is the exhaust side of that system. It runs along the peak of the roof and lets attic air escape evenly across the whole length of the house. The intake side matters just as much, so we always check the soffits when we look at the ridge.

Ridge Vent Installation in Branson MO

This home needed better exhaust, so we cut in the ridge openings and installed new Owens Corning ridge vents. Then we capped them so they blend in with the roof.

It wasn't a replacement, and it didn't need to be. It was a smaller roof repair that solved the real problem.

Ventilation Fix or New Roof?

If your roof is in good shape and the attic is the issue, better ventilation may be all you need. It can also help your shingles last the way they were designed to. Most shingle manufacturers, Owens Corning included, expect an attic to be properly ventilated.

If the shingles are already worn out, cracked, or leaking, ventilation alone won't save them. That's a different conversation, and I'll always tell you straight which one you're dealing with.

Not Sure Which One You Need?
